Aim of the Conference

Water Loss 2018 is intended to present and discuss the latest developments, strategies, techniques and applications of international best practices in Non-Revenue Water Management. The Conference is the ninth event in a series of IWA water loss reduction speciality conferences, following the successful “Water Loss 2016” that was held in Bangalore, India with 615 participants from 42 different countries from around the world.

Water Loss 2018 was brought to Cape Town to address the pressing need for improved water utility efficiency and will cover various topics including leak detection, pressure management, performance based NRW reduction, PPP’s education & awareness, performance indicators, new technology and case studies.

Conference Fees

Conference fees include the proceedings, coffee breaks and lunches during the conference, as well as the welcome reception and conference banquet.

Please Note: All fees are to be paid in ZAR (R). The indicative USD price may change due to the exchange rate fluctuation.

A further reduction of USD 50 (R700) will apply to all fees if the delegate is younger than 35 years. The Accompanying Person fee of USD 150 (R2100) includes access to the opening and closing ceremonies, the welcome reception, and the conference banquet.

Program Outline

The program will follow a similar approach to the previous IWA water loss conferences, opening with a plenary session on the first morning. Three Parallel sessions will then be scheduled for the remainder of the first day, throughout the second day, as well as on the third morning. The conference will then close with a plenary session on the third afternoon. A time will also be dedicated for poster presentations.

A one-day workshop will be held on Sunday, 6th May 2018 as an introduction to the NRW techniques developed through the IWA Water Loss Specialist Group.

Social Programme

Welcome Reception – Century City Hotel (6 May 2018) 
On Sunday evening, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow delegates. Meet old friends and make new ones in Cape Town.

Networking Evening – D’Aria Winery, Durbanville (7 May 2018) 
After a day of attending sessions at the conference and visiting the exhibits, all participants are invited to a networking event in the evening. The event will be at the nearby D’Aria Wine Estate, and representatives from a number of wine farms in the valley will showcase their internationally renowned brands pared with exquisite foods.

Open Social Evening (8 May 2018) 
The Tuesday evening has been left open in order for guests to relax after the days event. Delegates are welcome to arrange their own social gatherings on this evening. Use the opportunity to wine and dine clients, or to simply take some time out from the busy conference schedule.

Conference Banquet (9 May 2018) 
The official conference banquet will take place on Wednesday evening at a still to be determined location. It will be an unbeatable experience of true Cape Town hospitality, good food and excellent entertainment.

Companion Tours (7 – 9 May 2018) 

During the 3-day conference, guided tours will be offered to ensure that all accompanying guests will have the opportunity to explore Cape Town and surrounding areas. Companions will be taken to popular attractions, in and around Cape Town, including a visit to the Waterfront etc.

Paper Submissions

Abstract deadline has been extended to the 30 November 2017.

Though the submission of a full technical paper is encouraged, it is not compulsory for this conference. Authors should submit one page abstracts on their topic of choice (no later than 30 November 2017). If accepted, authors then have the option of submitting a full technical paper, which will be included in the conference proceedings. Authors can upload their abstracts onto the conference website from 1 July 2017.

Technical Presentations

It is expected that 200 abstracts from 60 different countries will be submitted; from which the Scientific Committee will select about 100 for either oral or poster presentations. Many of the world’s best known NRW management specialists will attend and present at the conference
